East African Bolero is a project led by Rwandan choreographer Wesley Ruzibiza, which first intent is to enhance East African traditional culture, giving a contemporary shape to it that makes it accessible and readable on international stages. This show will be created with Beninese choreographer Vincent Harisdo’s outside view and after a research dedicated to traditional dances from Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania and Democratic Republic of Congo.
This creation wants to explore in a refreshingly new way patrimonial dances. By working around contemporary variations of traditional movements, the idea is to root the performance in a regional heritage and to draw on this repository of movements. The repertory created will be confronted and put in relationship with the music monument that is Maurice Ravel’s Boléro.
